Cooking, Bein' Put Over Coals, and Butter Rum Cake

It's been a busy couple weeks here in the DH house and I feel like I've been neglecting my baby here so I'll get ya caught up with where I've been (in case you're interested and all).

Startin' with my trip to Oklahoma, it was kick-ass! In one week I felt more at home on those red dirt roads than this wild west girl could've imagined. We managed to scoot around Grand Lake, look at everything from double-wides to full-blown party ranches, and got a feel for what this gal'd like to live in out there. We also met with family (check out the video section for some great Elvis action there), gave our coon hound a chance to stretch her paws, and tooled on up to Branson to celebrate Turkey Day in full roller coaster glory. Overall, the trip was the best vacation I ever had! Doesn't hurt that I got to wow the man's pappy with some of my southwestern kitchen skills along the way. There's nothin like the pride of impressin' a man's parents ;-)

Speakin a' which, that man is just about as adorable as they come. For christmas he went out and bought me the John Deer of all kitchen appliances: The KitchenAid Ultra Power Stand Mixer. That means even MORE of me fattenin' his tummy so he can't run away! I've even started a picture project I'm callin' "Cooking in Chaos" where I show off some of my fancy-food that I manage to cook up even with dogs and kids and craziness under my feet and in my kitchen. Once I get my ass settled in Oklahoma I think I might try my hand at makin quick shows available online that deal with how to manage a decent meal amidst madness. Who knows?

And while we're talkin' about madness, let's talk about my landlord and this sub-prime-lending bullshit. My landlord seems to have been blowin my monthly rent payments on hookers and blow or whiskey and gamblin' cause he certainly hasn't been payin for the house. Got a call from him a week ago warnin us that the bank'll be exercising their right to bitchslap him with a foreclosure. Now we're waiting to find out from that bank whether we'll get to keep the house or not. We've got a backup plan to cover our asses till school's out but ain't it a bitch to have to worry about this business at Christmastime?

Anyhow, for now I'm gonna ease back and wait for what the bank has to say, and in the meantime I'll cozy up and get to readin my advanced copy of "Born Country", the new autobiography from Randy Owen of Alabama. Stay tuned for a review on that.
